Weekend in Krakow, Poland

januára 27, 2018

Have you ever been to Poland? I was here, in the beautiful capital city of this country, and I´m not gonna lie if I told you it was stunning! This city is georgeous! Let me take you there in my photos, so you can explore this city with me!

It was rainy the whole weekend, but it didn´t ruin the beauty of this city. Krakow, the capital city of Poland, country in central Europe, where many things are possible. My and my friends bought cheap accommodation by Airbnb and planned our short trip to this country. We wanted to visit Auschwitz - the concentration camp, and the next day Krakow. So we jumped into a car and started our short adventure! We got lost for like a seven times, almost got in the opposite direction on the highway, but we made it alive.

First stop was the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. I always wanted to visit one of the concentration camps. And I highly recommend it as a "Must seen once in a life". I mean, it´s very emotional and also very educational, so I think everybody needs to see, how cruel the history and people was and can be, and how important is to learn from it and don´t do the same things over again. We had several problems with getting here, because there were no guides free in our language (I recommend to reserve it some days before). So we need to wait some hours to get free ticket without guide. Which was sad, because you don´t have much time to explore everything and the guide tells you about everything, but neverthless, the experience  was strong.

"Work sets you free" - this slogan was "welcoming" prisoners right at the entrance

the prisoners didn´t have a chance to escape

prison, where many people came and never came back

Prisoner´s shoes. You can find there also their glasses, toothbrushes, combs, braces...and the saddest room full of human hair, from which Nazis made cloth. It is forbidden to take photos in there.

The suitcases which will never have the owner anymore.

The second part of the concentration camp was in another city nearby. It was very huge, so it was almost impossible to see the whole area, and also it was raining all the time. It was almost like the sky was crying over this sad place.

 The last station.

Now, straight to the more enjoyable things. And that is, of course, our visit in Krakow. We didn´t have any plans on what to see, my only planned stop was the Japanese Museum of Art and technology. But there were so many other things to see! Krakow historical centre was full of beautiful buildings, such as churches and so on, an also full of life. There were so many different people and cultures, street artists, tourists. And so many fun things to do! Every meter offered different type of fun. We let ourselves be tempted to visit the Butterfly garden, which was full of butterflies and terrarium exotic animals. You can touch the animals here, which is amazing, but on the other hand, it was sad look at some of the butterflies, because kids are allowed here too. And you can imagine what kids can do to that poor animals. But anyway, it was fun and unique experience.

The second thing we got ourselves into, was the fakt Madamme Toussaud´s museum. I was in the official one in Hollywood, but my friends weren´t so we came here. Some of the figurines were terrible, Harry Potter and Ron and Hermiona for example, didn´t look like the original actors at all! They looked more like a figurines in some chinese boutique dressed like they are from HP movie. But it was very funny to see, how terrible they can look. But not to be only mean, some figurines looked quite similar to the original ones.

Then we get to the centre and decided to get some food. There were local market with all the things, you can possibly imagine! Hand made products, souvenirs, antiques...And there were stands with traditional polish pretzel, so we decided to taste it. It tasted fine, but nothing special I guess.

Now just enjoy beauty of this city:

Then we went to Wawel castle, from which you can see the whole city. There were also some museums inside the castle. And from there, I saw the japanese museum. From now on, I was very impatient! :)

And then we finally came to Manggha - Museum of Japanese technology and arts. There were everything you want to know about Japan - history, clothing, food, army, replica of japanese house with zen garden. There were also many interactive exhibits - you can try origami, some games, try kimono - which they can help you with and tell you something about wearing it. By that time, there were special exhibition of japanese games. There were som traditional games like shogi and go, also Playstation and Nintendo, then some manga and anime and also many Pokemon. I spend very great time in here, I definitelly recommend to visit this museum, if you had the chance!

So that was our trip. Have you enjoyed it with me? Have you ever been to Poland? Are you planning on visiting Krakow? Let me know your polish stories down in the comments!
